End of the Year Marching Band Awards....Band Banquet

Hi does your band director and booster organization hold an end of the year recognition banquet to honor its members?

How are your members recognized? Are individual group awards given? Does your director give out any special awards? Do you have dinner and dancing afterwards?

Just curious how all of the years hard work is recognized in your unit.

My old high school has done that for the past 5 years now, and this will be the 6th year.

Each member in the *entire program* is recognized with a certificate, or a letter for a special jacket. The seniors in the program are given a very nice certificate, as well as pins.
Individual awards are based on performance throughout th eprogram. We have most improved musician for all cateogries, outstand musician, and a fair number of leadership and special recognition, although those tend to go to the seniors.

We eat first, food catered by a good company. Then the awards, then home. No dancing though...

We go to a banquet hall and have some catered grub and watch old performances and pictures and stuff on a big screen. There are senior speeches but one girl last year was up there for ten minutes crying and rambling and there's a rumor that those will be cancelled. We have awards for most improved and sophomores in the program get their letters. It's a semi formal occasion except for Seniors who wear formal. There's lots of hugging and food and tables and about a bugillion pictures. No dancing, though.

everyone gets a participation certificate... then there are pins handed out for different activities of that year(such as winterguard, northwest tour trip etc..) freshmen get letters and each year you get one more music stand thingy for that. sophomores get a band duffle bag, juniors and seniors get something too, i just can't remember what. then the awards are announced like most inspirational, best 4 year and 1st year musician/guard, best jazz, john phillips sousa award etc... band council, dm, and section leaders for next year are also officially announced. i think there's food too. and scholarships.

Yeah. In the past years at my school, the leaders were announced at the end. However, I believe that the leaders, or at least the DM for sure, is going to be announced before the banquet. Appearantly some people get really let down, which is completely understandable. I guess the directors don't want anyone walking away from the end of the year with resentment.

And the 'B', well...that's for Burnination

yep... banquet with a pot luck dinner, band director hands out all the "letters" in our band you can letter all four years...

Freshman year - Block Letter
Sophmore- Senior year a pin

if you've lettered all four years you get a plaque....

We also do Best______ and Most Improved_____ Freshman-Senior whatever, and the Sousa and Louie gets announced then to.. etc etc... (typical band awards)

it's also a time where we thank all the parents/booster and the booster thanks the band director and us instructors....

and oh yea how can I forget the band director usually does senior gag awards...

it hink thats all..

**edit**

oops I also forget we mention who the next marching season's drum major(s), section leaders, and leadership league people are...

we have a banquet, there are deserts, and drinks. The whole marching band colorguard drumline and all the other music groups go. Our director hands out letters to the sophmores, and then cirtificates to everyone else. We also have awards for individual accomplishments. For example since i am in guard we have the best performer and the best rifle, flag, and sabre. things like that.

banquet

Post by drummerfromtroy » Tue Mar 23, 2004 6:43 pm

oh yes do we have a band banquet. booster club and some students plan for it like most of the year. its like the biggest thing in band (almost like a bando prom) we spend lots of money on it and rent out a really nice banquet facility with a catered dinner.

Personally i think it is too much, i would be fine with a pizza party and casual attire. but hey, its not my choice. i really wish that we (marching band) spent all the time and money into our SHOW and not on our banquet. id rather have a better show then a nice banquet.

we also have awards, senior videos, speeches, dancing. so like everything. we also anounce next years leaders which is always exciting to find out.

for drumline (winter) we usually have an end of the year party at someone's house with swimming and pizza and its fun to celebrate and relax after a great season. its chill 8-)
